Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must meet the following BCSP requirements:
- At least 30 hours of safety, health and environmental training
- Successful completion of the STS® examination
- Payment of the annual renewal fee after certification
- Completion of BCSP recertification requirements to maintain the certification
- Compliance with BCSP’s professional conduct and disclosure requirements
Candidates must also meet at least one of the following experience, education or training pathways:
- Two years of supervisory experience; or
- Four years of work experience in any industry, with qualifying work performed for at least 18 hours per week; or
- An associate degree or higher in occupational safety, risk management or construction management; or
- Completion of a two-year trade or union training programme or apprenticeship
Final training acceptance, experience verification, application approval, examination eligibility and certification decisions are made exclusively by BCSP.

Examination Overview
- The STS® examination is administered by BCSP and delivered through Pearson testing centres
- The examination is computer-based
- The current examination time is two hours
- After an application is approved, candidates have one year to take and pass the examination
- Official results are available after the candidate submits the examination
- Application, examination and renewal fees are set and collected by BCSP and may change
