Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must meet the following BCSP requirements:

  • Three years of professional experience
  • At least 35% of the candidate’s job duties must require technical skills and knowledge in occupational hygiene or safety
  • Successful completion of the OHST® examination
  • Payment of the annual renewal fee after certification
  • Completion of BCSP recertification requirements to maintain the certification
  • Compliance with BCSP’s professional conduct and disclosure requirements

BCSP does not specify a minimum education requirement for the OHST®. Final experience eligibility, application approval and certification decisions are made exclusively by BCSP.

Examination Overview

  • The OHST® examination is administered by BCSP and delivered through Pearson testing centres
  • The examination is computer-based
  • The current examination time is four hours
  • After an application is approved, candidates have one year to take and pass the examination
